The coordinator typically possesses a combination of interactive and administrative skills and has a good knowledge of available treatment resources. While not necessarily a trained counselor, the coordinator is sufficiently skillful in evaluating the gross dimensions of an employee's problems so that a correct referral can be made. Contact with a program coordinator can be made through one of four channels: 1. 2. 3. 4. Identification by supervisors and managers who have been trained to observe and document unsatisfactory job performance Self-identification by employees seeking assistance Peer referral Identification through drug testing After consultation with an employee, the coordinator proposes a rehabilitation strategy, obtains the employee's agreement, and then makes arrangements for him or her to receive the proposed treatment through a facility located in the community.
Screening Programs Pursuant to and consistent with Corporate Policy, substance abuse screening programs will be adopted and maintained at all domestic facilities and, where feasible, abroad. The programs shall be applicable to all prospective employees offered a position and to current employees in sensitive positions, as defined hereafter. All substance abuse screening programs will meet with the following conditions: • • • Location/plant management must adopt the Substance Abuse Screening Program as set forth herein.
Establishing a drug-free awareness program to inform employees about the following: 1. The dangers of drug abuse in the workplace 2. The grantee's policy of maintaining a drug-free workplace 3. Any available drug counseling, rehabilitation, and employee assistance program 4. The penalties that may be imposed on employees for drug abuse violations occurring in the workplace C. Making it a requirement that each employee to be engaged in the performance of the grant be given a copy of the statement required by paragraph A D.
